The Mighty Five

Utah is home to five National Parks. Only California and Alaska contain more. Utah’s National parks are collectively referred to as The Mighty 5. Here’s a quick rundown of what each park offers to explorers.

  1. Canyonlands National Park: The Largest of Utah’s National Parks, Canyonlands is a massive 527 square mile area. With many distinct features, the park is divided into 4 districts. From deep canyons to steep cliffs, and even white-water rapids, Canyonlands has adventures for everyone.
  2. Arches National Park: Home to the famous Delicate Arch featured on the Utah License Plate, Arches National Park contains over 2,000 naturally formed sandstone arches.
  3. Capitol Reef National Park: The least visited National Park in Utah, Capitol Reef offers a glimpse of what the earth might have looked like millions of years ago. The park contains colorful cliffs, large domes, and even ancient petroglyphs.
  4. Bryce Canyon National Park: The most memorable feature of Bryce Canyon is the hoodoos. These unique red rock pillars are scattered for miles in maze like formations. The park is also home to several natural amphitheaters and a high elevation forest that allows for winter sports such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
  5. Zion National Park: One of the most visited parks in the United Sates, Zion is home to slot canyons and vermillion cliffs. A popular hike known as the Narrows involves walking upstream in a river through a slot canyon.
